- Launch the Director & sign in.
- Click Environment > Protected Theaters.
- Click Add Protected Theater; the Add Protected Theater form displays.

- Enter the information for the Protected Theater virtual machine.
- Name: Label for the Protected Theater (PT).
- Description: Free text description of the PT.
- User Tags: Select existing user-created tags or add new ones to label this PT.
Security Zone: The area of your environment where the PT will live.
Security zones are added to the Director after the Director is installed (see Adding Security Zones if the security zone you need is not listed).
- Comm Mode: The communications mode by which the Director and PT communicate. This can be set to Push or Pull mode.
Proxy Through Actor: This should be set to No Proxy. PTs should not use an Actor as a proxy to communicate with the Director.
- Actor Time: The method used for maintaining the PT's time. This can be either system time or NTP (see Adding NTP Servers if no NTP servers are listed).
- Enable Network Keepalive: Selecting this will mean the PT will send a periodic (default setting is hourly) ARP request for all interfaces to maintain status in the ARP tables.
- Click Submit. The Protected Theater appears in the Pending Theaters table and a code is generated which is used for registration.

- From the Protected Theater's Action menu, click Connect.
Enter the management IP or FQDN for the Protected Theater and click Connect.
When registration completes, the Protected Theater appears in the Protected Theaters table.
FQDNs must comply with RFC 1123, a standard that defines the requirements for FQDNs on the internet. This standard specifies that FQDNs can only contain the following:
- Letters (A-Z, a-z)
- Digits (0-9)
- Hyphens (-)
Underscores are not permitted.

- Verify Networking settings are correct and that there are no issues.
- From the Protected Theater's Action menu, click Edit.
- Refresh network settings by clicking Refresh Protected Theater Info at the top of the page.
- Refresh capabilities information by scrolling to the Supported Capabilities section and clicking Update Info.
