There are some settings that impact Actor Communication that need to be configured across the platform. The majority of the settings are for running port scans and the "Can Talk to Actor" (CTTA) behaviors, which is automated discovery of connectivity between Actors using port scans. By default, Actors perform daily port scans against other Actors to establish which ports and protocols are permitted between them.
The Actor Settings page (Settings > Director Settings > Actors) is where you can configure these. This page also includes settings that are specific to individual Actor functionality.
The following Actor settings can be configured:
Port Scans
- Automatically Run (enable/disable): This setting controls whether The Director automatically reruns the CTTA scan.
- Automatically Daily Runtime (24-hour clock format) (defaults to 03:00): This setting determines when the on-prem Director runs the CTTA scan.
- Ports (comma delimited, ranges with hyphens): This setting lets you choose which ports to use in the CTTA scans.
- Monitor Interface (on/off): This setting lets you choose whether to do the port scans on the monitor interface instead of the test interface.
This is for Actors that have a third network interface configured as a monitor interface, in addition to the management and test interfaces.
- Sleep Values (comma delimited in seconds): Values in this field are no longer used by the platform. This field will be removed in a future release.
Can Talk to Actor
- Sleep Between Attempts (defaults to 0 seconds)
- Web Actions - Timeout for HTTP GET File Transfer Actions (defaults to 60 seconds but the valid input range is 0-3600 seconds)
- Randomize Port Order (on/off)
Windows Actors

Suppress OS Sleep (defaults to off)
This setting prevents Windows from going to sleep when the VerodinEndpointService service is running but does not prevent a user from putting the computer to sleep.
The Suppress OS Sleep configuration is tied to the VerodinEndpointService service, which is always started. When Suppress OS Sleep is enabled, it takes priority over any Windows policies for system sleep, preventing the Windows system from going to sleep unless the User activates the sleep functionality (using keyboard shortcuts, shutting the laptop, etc).
Run As User - Interactive Session Defaults
These settings provide the default value run-time parameters (Run as User/Interactive Session) for Network and DNS Actions. Change these defaults if you want specific types of Actions to simulate a manual login through an interactive session. For example, some integrations or security technology on the Windows Actor may require an interactive session to work correctly.
- Network and DNS Actions (default: Off)
- Interactive Login Delay (defaults to 30 seconds): The number of seconds to delay after the user logs in before running the Action. This may be useful if security technology requires the presence of an active desktop to execute a GUI session as the logged in user.
Changing this setting doesn't affect Host CLI Actions except in cases where an action has Require Interactive Session set to On for Protected Actors (see Adding Host Command Line Interface Actions).
