Editing an Actor

After adding and registering your Actor, you can review the Actor information and make additional changes.

NOTE: The information you can view and change varies based on the type of Actor, which form-factor you used to install it, and its communication method.

Configuration information that was not included when initially adding the Actor that you can view but not change includes:

Depending on the Actor, the following settings can be changed:

  • Name and Description
  • User Tags
  • Management, Test, and Monitor IP addresses (Actors in the Cloud)
  • Alternate Hostname (see Setting the Alternate Hostname)
  • Security Zone
  • Communication mode
  • Proxy Through Actor
  • Location
  • Pull Interval
  • Service Startup Timeout (seconds)

This setting was added to assist with slow Windows environments and lets you increase the time allowed for the services to start up. This field also adds the following new registry key, which has a timeout value in milliseconds:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ServicesPipeTimeout

Changes to this field are not applied until you reboot the Actor, which also reboots the Windows OS.

  • DNS server
  • Captive IOC Enabled setting (see Enabling Running Captive IOC Actions)
  • OS Language (Globally set in Advanced Settings but can be updated at the Actor level)
  • Suppress OS Sleep

The Suppress OS Sleep configuration is tied to the VerodinEndpointService service, which is always started. When Suppress OS Sleep is enabled, it takes priority over any Windows policies for system sleep. This setting prevents the Windows system from going to sleep unless the User activates the sleep functionality (using keyboard shortcuts, shutting the laptop, and so on).

  • Actor Time Settings
  • Enable Network Keepalive
  • Interfaces & Routing
  • Disable Auto Interface and Enable Auto Interface

If networking for the computer changes frequently, we suggest having Auto Interface enabled. When Auto Interface is enabled, the platform selects the interface when you run security content.

You can reattach an Actor to another Actor that had vreset run. For more information, see Reattaching an Actor.
